Motorola Droid Bionic – An Overview ( Specs, Rumored Release Date – April )

First of all: Should we wait for the Motorola Droid Bionic ? Or jump on the HTC Thunderbolt bandwagon ? Have your say.
According to Motorola Droid Bionic’s specs, the smartphone features a 4.3 inch qHD touchscreen capacitive display, which seems to have caught on for Motorola, as it is boasting a resolution of 540 x 960. This brings the Bionic’s pixel per inch count just a touch lower than that of the iPhone 4’s Retina display, but it’s a good step in the right direction.

Powering the device is a NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor, clocked at 1 GHz per core and 512 MB of RAM. On the back of the device an 8 MP camera with dual LED found its new home. The camera offers 720p HD recording capabilities ( at 30 FPS ) while the front of the Bionic you’ll find a VGA camera for voice chat.

The Motorola Droid Bionic specs sheet wouldn’t be complete without the 2 GB of ROM and 16 GB of built-in storage space which you can increase via the standard micro SD card by another 32 GB. The Droid Bionic will be shipping with Android 2.2 Froyo, but according to some sources it will be getting Android 2.3 Gingerbread rather soon after its launch.
Probably the most important regarding the Motorola Droid Bionic is the fact that it will be one of the first Android phones to use Verizon’s 4G LTE network, so we’ll keep a lookout for that to see what speeds this device can get on the new network.
Connectivity wise the Droid Bionic sports a micro USB port, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and HDMI out, so nothing new there. What did impress me somewhat was actually the weight of the device when thinking of its size. It measures in at 125.9 x 66.9 x 13.3 mm (that’s 4.96 x 2.63 x 0.52 inches) and weighs in at 158 grams (that’s 5.57 oz) which makes it a pretty robust phone, something which Motorola already got us accustomed with.
Verizon’s Motorola Droid Bionic release date is scheduled sometime during Q2, so we will be seeing more and more from the Bionic in the future.

On a quick side note, there have been leaks according to which the device will be available for around $150 for a 2 year subscription on Verizon, so if you want a solid dual-core Android phone, keep an eye out for this device.
